TLA Partners with HEB for June Checkstand Donation Campaign

June 2024

The Texas Library Association (TLA) is excited to announce that HEB selected TLA as the beneficiary of the June checkstand donation campaign. Beginning June 5, customers at any HEB store can give when they check out. Proceeds from the campaign will support summer reading programs and initiatives at Texas libraries.The impact of this partnership will make a tremendous difference in the services libraries can provide to their communities during the summer months. TXLA Disaster Relief Fund

June 14, 2024

The Texas Library Association awards grants from organization’s Disaster Relief Fund to libraries impacted by natural disasters. Grants range from $1,500 to $5,000 and can be used for technology, facility repair, collections, furnishings, or other needs related to storm damage. Academic, public, school and special libraries are eligible to receive assistance.

Due to the significant impact of recent storms in the Houston area, TLA has opened application for the Disaster Relief Fund. Libraries in the Houston area that have been damaged are encouraged to apply.

Rural library training for creating a literacy program without any ingredients

June 17, 2024 | 10:00 a.m. Central

Heidi Frazier, Library and Community Services Manager, with the Harrie P. Woodson Memorial Library in rural Caldwell, Texas will share how the staff built a model focused on community collaboration for developing new programming, including General Educational Diploma (GED) and English as a Secnd Lanaguage (ESL) education, digital literacy classes, and citizenship tutoring – with no allocated funds.

This session will help attendees to identify and leverage hidden resources available within their communities to implement innovative, collaborative, and cost-effective programs.

This will be a free, virtual training. While this training is meant for rural libraries, anyone is able to attend. For more information, visit the event webpage.

Jerry Kline Community Impact Prize

June 17, 2024 | 1:59 p.m. Eastern

The Jerry Kline Community Impact Prize, developed in partnership betweenthe Gerald M. Kline Family Foundation andLibrary Journal, was created in 2019 to recognize the public library as a vital community asset. When libraries, civic entities, organizations, and the people they serve become close partners, their communities thrive. One winning library will receive $250,000 in unfettered grant monies from the Gerald M. Kline Family Foundation. The winning library will also be profiled in the November issue ofLibrary Journaland online. Honorable mentions may also be named. Library 2.0: The Supportive Library

Everyone is invited to participate in the Library 2.0 conference events, which are designed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among information professionals worldwide. Each three-hour event consists of a keynote panel, 10-15 crowd-sourced thirty-minute presentations, and a closing keynote. For this conference, the focus is helping patrons experiencing homelessness. LCRA Community Grants

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) awards up to $50,000 for capital improvement projects that benefit an entire community. Grant projects must improve the value of a capital asset by building, renovating or purchasing equipment. Volunteer fire departments, emergency responders, cities and counties, schools, libraries, civic groups, museums and other tax-exempt nonprofit organizations with projects located within LCRA’s wholesale electric or water service area, or areas in which LCRA Transmission Services Corporation provides transmission services are eligible to apply.
