I'm sure my email address is good, but I didn't receive my password/activation notice!
Before you do anything else, check your SPAM/Bulk folder!

If your ISP, like AOL or Earthlink, is set up to reject email from miata.net, miataforum.com, or eunos.com, you will also never receive your password. Some ISPs, like Juno, Earthlink, etc., are frequently set up to reject mail from any type of automated server. If your ISP is blocking our email, we can't help you. We won't even be able to respond to your question to tell you why we can't help you. If your ISP rejects our mail, you're toast.

Please be aware that if you use something like HOTMAIL or YAHOO, sometimes your account has become inactive or your mailbox is full and you are out of space. Clear your mailbox if full or re-create your account. Then come back to the forum and use the FORGOT PASSWORD link on any page that asks you for your user name or password.

Invalid email addresses that are used when you register will result in your password being sent to never-never-land. You will never get your password. You must enter a valid email address when you register or when you change your email address. If you don't, we can't help you. Your only option is to reregister with a different name.

If you are an Earthlink customer, make sure you allow email from miata.net and from eunos.net. We will not reply to the automated email asking us to request that you permit our outgoing mail to you.

Finally, some major ISPs that have taken a shotgun approach to spam with the result that they're "throwing the baby out with the bath water." These ISPs have decided that we are spammers and have our servers blacklisted. Despite the fact that we have never sent out spam, we have closed mail relays, and we run our own servers, they still seem to be convinced that we are spammers and block email from our primary mail server. Why? Well, its because they can not tell the difference between a spammer and an unwitting victim. This is what we think is happening:

Joe Spammer decides to send out a million spam messages. However, Joe does not want to use his real email address as a return address since he knows that will just get him blocked. So what does Joe do? He uses a fake address - something along the lines of ikjrark8r@cox.net. He then bombards the Miata.net server with a milllion message to a million non-existent addresses on Miata.net. What does our mail server do in response? We politely send a bounce message back to ikjrark8r@cox.net informing Joe that the address he is sending to is invalid. This causes the million bounce messages to go to an invalid address at cox.net instead of back to Joe. Cox sees all these bounce messages coming in from the Miata.net mail server and jumps to the incorrect conclusion that Miata.net is the originating spammer.

There is little we can do about it except to inform you. We also think you should complain to your ISP that they are preventing you from legitimate use of the Internet, and then you should find another ISP.

I can't activate my account. What should I do?
If you follow the instructions in the email exactly, you will have notrouble activating.
  1. Start by having new activation codes sent to you. Go to this address: http://forum.miata.net/vb/register.php?do=requestemail
  2. Check your email program for a message from "MX-5 Miata Forum"
  3. Look in the message for the following: To complete your registration, please visit the following link: Click on the link, or copy and paste it into your browser.
  4. You will be directed to a page in your browser that should say: Thank you, Your Username. Your registration is now complete.

Some notes:

  • If you did not get the codes via email, check your spam folder. Your ISP may be blocking it.
  • When you request codes, only click once. If you request it a second time, the first one becomes invalid and will not work.
  • You must activate within 24 hours or the codes become invalid.

If you followed the instructions above, it should work. If you still have trouble, the problem is most likely due to some sort of firewall or other type of blocker, either on your PC or with your ISP. If that is the case, there is not much we can do. If you send us a full description describing exactly what happened, we may be able to activate your accont manually. However it can take up to 7 days for us to do it manually.

I forgot my password
If you forgot your password or your Login Name, you can click on Forgot Password to get it reset.
(Note: if your login name has an & in it, you may not be able to log in. In that case, please Contact Us and we'll take care of it.)

You will need to remember your email address that you registered with, and your password will be emailed to that address. If you have changed your email address and can't retrieve mail from the address you registered with, we can't help you. For security reasons, we will only send passwords to the address in our system. You will need to remember your username and password so you can change your email address.

My email address changed, and I can't get my password!
If you can't remember your password, and you don't have access to the email address you registered with, then we're really sorry, but we can't help you. You have to re-register. Why? Because we have no way to prove you're the same person. We can only send passwords to the email address on file.

Usernames and passwords are case sensitive.
If you originally used UPPER CASE characters when you registered, you have to use UPPER CASE when you log in. The usernames "Bob", "bob", and "BOB" are all different to the computer. We also suggest going into your profile and changing your password to something you can remember. Use the PROFILE link at the top of any page.

I still can't get in or I can't reset my password
If we have no record of your email address in our database, there are a few possible reasons for this:
  • Your registration wasn’t completed.
  • You registered, but failed to “activate” your account within 24 hours. If you don’t activate within 24 hours, your account is automatically deleted.
  • You were fully registered at one time, but you never posted in the forum and you haven’t visited for a year or more. Inactive accounts are deleted after 1 year.
  • You used a different email address when you registered. If you let us know what it was, we can look it up.
If you have your password and you are unable to log in or are unable to post, or unable to edit your profile, and you are positive you have the right password, be certain that you have cookies enabled in your browser. You can not post to the forum unless you enable cookies. In Internet Explorer, select "Tools" -> "Internet Options...", the select the "Privacy" tab. Either set your Privacy setting to "Medium High" or lower, or you can set an "override" to allow cookies just for miata.net.

We also recommend that you try clearing your browser cookies.

Finally, we have found that many problems are traced back to firewall software, popup blockers, or anti-virus software. Try disabling these to see if the problem clears up.
