WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
Joel Barnes,
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
Temperatures have reached the mid 60s across West Tennessee for our Wednesday and will stay above normal through the weekend. Rain shower chances will return on Thursday and a few storms will be possible Friday night. More rain and weak storms will stick around during the weekend. We will have the full forecast details coming up and I will let you know when some cooler weather will be returning; all coming up here.
TONIGHT:
We cracked the 60° mark again on Wednesday with highs reaching the mid 60s and the warmer weather will be sticking around through the weekend. Overnight lows will be warmer than the previous nights and only drop down to the mid to upper 40s. The reason for the warm up will be the change in the winds from the north to the southeast that happened earlier today. We will saw more clouds on Wednesday than the beginning of the week but it was another nice day. Expect a mostly cloudy night tonight with the winds light and coming out of the south. No rain is expected on Wednesday.
THURSDAY:
Shower chances will try to return Thursday evening to the Mid South. We are not expecting much rain here in West Tennessee chances will start late Thursday and continue for a few days. The rain chances will continue into Friday morning but some heavier rain and maybe a few storms will return Friday night into the weekend. The winds will stay out of the south on Thursday and that will allow high temperatures to again reach the low 60s. Thursday night lows will only fall down to the mid 50s under the rain showers. Expect a mostly cloudy day and a cloudy night. Rain chances Thursday is around 40% as of now.
FRIDAY:
Rain showers will linger Friday morning before clearing out into the afternoon. We could hear a few rumbles of thunder Friday morning but the system likely will not be bringing big storms or severe weather to West Tennessee. We will see a better chance for a few storms mixing on Friday night into Saturday morning.
Expect a widespread 1/4 to 1/2″ of rain from the late week system. Friday is going to be a warm and humid day with highs making it all the way up to the mid 60s. Friday night lows will also remain above normal and drop down to the low 50s. The winds will come out of the southwest all day Friday but transition back to the west for the weekend.
THE WEEKEND:
The weekend forecast appears to be challenging and will be very similar to what we saw the previous weekend. A low pressure system will track to the south of us along the gulf coast. Some of the northern rain bands associated with the system will move through West Tennessee. Like last weekend, the highest rain amounts will be in our southern counties and some of us near the Kentucky border could miss out on the weekend rain again.
The winds will come out of the west on Saturday and out of the northwest on Sunday. Expect a cloudy weekend for the most part. Rain showers could stick around for most of the weekend for some of us. Highs will reach the low 60s both afternoons and morning lows will hang around 50°. Chances for rain as of now is 70% on Saturday and 50% on Sunday. The rain will not be constant and will come in several waves, we might get a decent break during the day on Sunday before more rain comes back Sunday night into the day on Monday.
NEXT WEEK:
Monday will be a cooler day with temperatures hanging around into the low 50s or upper 40s all day long. More rain is expected to fall on Monday before clearing out late in the day or by Monday night. Tuesday will remain a bit cool but we should be dry on Tuesday with some sun returning into the afternoon. The winds will come out of north or northwest to kick off the week. We could finally see a break in the warm weather later in the week as some more seasonably cool weather will look to move back in. As of now, Valentine’s Day look mostly sunny and dry with highs in the mid 50s. Date night will see temperatures in the 40s in the evening on Wednesday.
FINAL THOUGHT:
The drought situation continues to improve across West Tennessee and this week is going to bring some more relief. We have 2 different systems that will look to bring some rain our way late in the week and again over the weekend. As of now, the flooding concerns appear to be low as well as the risk for severe storms. Temperatures will look to stay above normal at least until Valentine’s day next week.
